Axie Infinity is making big moves on the South Korean market. The digital pet collecting game partnered with Kakao Corp. As a result the game will soon be playable on Kakao’s Klaytn blockchain. This allows gamers to pay for virtual land or items using KLAY tokens. This was announced by the two companies. It marks another move by Kakao to make their Klaytn blockchain as consumer friendly and inclusive as possible.

Klaytn is part of Kakao’s ecosystem. Kakao integrates their blockchain project into messaging app Kakao Talk. More than 80 percent of the South Korean population use the app. Which means 44 million consumers use the app every day. The blockchain system adds a variety of decentralized tools, like social media, ticketing systems and games.

Axie Infinity is a creature collecting and breeding game. It’s already available on the Ethereum blockchain. As a result the game uses ERC-721 non-fungible tokens to give players ownership over Axies and other virtual items. Players need to take care of their digital pets and grow them. They will earn experience points by doing daily tasks and participating in online battles.

Klaytn getting lots of media attention

The release of Axie Infinity is just another cherry on the pie for the Klaytn blockchain. In recent weeks the South Korean blockchain project has been in the spotlight a lot. Last week local media revealed that Samsung and Kakao Corp have launched a so-called Klaytn Phone. This blockchain-powered smartphone is based on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.

The blockchain launched late June. A ‘governance council’ forms the network. Twenty companies are in this council, including LG, Celltrion and Netmarble. This draws some clear comparisons between Klaytn and Facebook’s Libra coin. The Klaytn blockchain should be offering 34 different blockchain apps by the end of October this year.
