Bitcoin logo on kit of Premier League football club
The Bitcoin logo will appear on the football jersey of Watford Football Club. This is the result from a partnership with bitcoin betting platform Sportsbet.io. On top of this the Premier League football club will also accept cryptocurrency payments in its online merchandise shop. Watford F.C. announced this on Thursday.
Watford football club emphasizes that the placement of the bitcoin logo is part of a wider campaign to improve awareness around cryptocurrency. The club will help to educate the public on the benefits of using cryptocurrencies.
“The crypto community have been hugely supportive of us since we began, so putting the Bitcoin logo on the sleeve felt like a fun way to give something back while also showing them our support.”
Justin Le Brocque, Head of Marketing at Sportsbet.io
Last month, Sportsbet.io announced a three-year partnership with Watford. This marked the first time a company known for blockchain and cryptocurrency expertise had appeared on the front of a Premier League shirt.
Last week Turkish Super Lig club Yeni Malatyaspor announced a new cryptocurrency shirt sponsor as well. Turkish cryptocurrency exchange BTC Turk is sponsoring the club. As a result the club renamed to BTC Turk Yeni Malatyaspor. The exchange also started promoting its activities in major football stadiums in the country.
Besides all these sponsorships blockchain technology is further infiltrating the world of sports. The Major League Baseball and Formula 1 are part of upcoming licensed blockchain games. On top of this, major football clubs like Newcastle United, Juventus and Paris Saint Germain have signed a partnership with Chiliz and their Socios platform to issue fan tokens for their fans. Most recently Club Atlético de Madrid joined the project.
