BTC gains usability in Denmark

Denmark’s biggest food takeaway portal Hungry.dk is now accepting bitcoin again as a payment method. The portal handles orders from over 1500 restaurants around the country. According to Crunchbase the food website has 369 thousand unique visitors per month.

It’s not the first time Hungry.dk uses bitcoin as a payment method. Last year to stopped doing it because of the long confirmation time and high fees. Hungry was one of money companies who chose to no longer accept bitcoin. Gaming platform Steam for example dumped bitcoin as a payment option, but they haven’t shown any intention of bringing crypto payments back onto their system.

Market analyst Larry Cermak revealed some interesting data about bitcoin acceptance in the past few years. Worldwide currently 13 thousand locations accept bitcoin as a payment option. Over 35% of those locations are general shopping stores, followed by ATMs (13.5%) and lodging services (9.7%).

Most of the shops the accept bitcoin are located in the United States (27%). Other countries with a decent acceptance of bitcoin are Brazil, Spain, Germany, Canada and Italy. Slovenia and the Czech Republic have one of the highest penetration rates of bitcoin-accepting venues per capit; 41.6 locations per one million people in Slovenia and 32.6 per one million in Czech.
