Fans of Bayern Munchen will soon be able to purchase unique collectible cards on the blockchain. German Rekordmeister F.C. Bayern Munchen has signed an agreement with blockchain game studio Stryking. The game studio will make non-fungible tokens in the form of digital player cards. On the cards fans will find the likenesses of Bayern Munchen players from the past and the present.

Of course Stryking will also add some game elements to the collectibles. There will be a fantasy league style of gameplay associated with the cards. In addition fans can build teams, play each other and have outcomes based on current form and historical data.

It’s within the line of expectations that more clubs will follow Bayern Munchen in signing up with Stryking. The website Stryking.io is showing a first teaser of the platform.

Blockchain games and football clubs

Animoca Brands is the owner of Stryking since April this year. The company is a developer and publisher of blockchain-based games and collectibles. Animoca is involved in many blockchain games aimed at a mainstream audience. For example, they already have licenses for the Major League Baseball (which recently caused some commotion), Formula 1 and the MotoGP.

Stryking is the second blockchain startup making deals with football clubs. Another example is Socios, a platform where fans can buy club tokens to show support. Juventus, Paris Saint Germain, Galatasaray and Newcastle United signed up with this platform.

At the same time we see more mainstream adoption for cryptocurrencies. Currently the English club Watford has a jersey with the bitcoin logo on its sleeves. In addition the Turkish Super Lig club Malatyaspor is sponsored by cryptocurrency exchange BTCTurk. There’s a big trend of sports clubs getting into the blockchain business.
