Gods Unchained adds tradeable chests amidst growing user base
Gods Unchained is getting some major updates, including the possibility to buy sealed chests filled with cards. In addition the game will be less heavy on the Ethereum network. Game studio Immutable announced these updates in a blog post. The announcements come after the studio received a 15 million dollar investment, and Gods Unchained become a new favorite for those who lost faith in game studio Blizzard Entertainment.
More than a week after Blizzard banned a professional Hearthstone player from one of its tournaments, ‘Hearthstone refugees’ have found a new home in Gods Unchained. Game studio Immutable positioned itself well amidst the controversy.
As a result the blockchain-powered card game has doubled its user base. The newly announced technical improvements not only benefit the existing player base, these updates are aimed at building a platform that’s capable of growth.
The 15 million dollar investment happened late September. Immutable needs to use the money to improve its game. Instead of attracting hundreds of gamers per day, it needs to build a platform that’s capable to support millions of gamers.
Gods Unchained not clogging Ethereum blockchain
The most technical update is the migration to a new smart contract. With the new contract players don’t need to spend money on activating their cards. Currently a new card is not an actual token yet. Players need to activate their cards before they can be traded on an online market place.
This update isn’t only better for the gamers, but also for the Ethereum network the game is running on. If all existing cards from Gods Unchained would be activated, it would clog the entire Ethereum blockchain for three weeks straight. Immutable thinks that its update can save 95 percent of the ‘gas’ required for the game. The migration is expected to happen within 7 days. Players are required to remove their cards from marketplaces before the migration.
Trading sealed chests
Because Immutable is making such a big improvement on its main smart contracts, it can now also introduce tradeable chests into Gods Unchained. According to the developer this is a much requested feature. These chests are basically bundles of six card packs. The cards in the packs are not determined or minted until the chest is opened. This allows players to hold the chest or sell it, without revealing which cards are inside. Once the box has been opened, all cards are known and the chest loses its ‘sealed’ status.
There will be two types of chests:
- Legendary Chests (5000 total limit, 0.8064 ETH a piece)
- Rare Chests (0.0864 ETH, no limit)
These chests are available right now. Players won’t be able to trade the chest just yet. The Genesis Season will end at the end of October. After that all bought cards will only be obtainable by trading on the marketplace.
