Trading card game Gods Unchained has doubled its player count in the past 24 hours. The game gained lots of attention after the developers spoke out against gaming company Blizzard Entertainment. Blizzard banned a Hearthstone pro-gamer over his support for the Hong Kong protests, and sequentially fired two live commentators as well.

Gods Unchained has seen 455 users in the past 24 hours, basically doubling its average player count. In addition the game has seen over 1200 transactions, worth a total of 148.5 ETH. This equals more than 27 thousand dollars. This information comes from DappRadar.

Gods Unchained is a trading card game build on the Ethereum blockchain. Players can buy and earn cards, which consequently become player-owned items. Because of the sudden interest from a bigger audience, the servers of the game collapsed. It took developer Immutable one hour to get them back up and running again.

Gods Unchained supports banned player

Game studio Immutable took the stage after Chung Ng Wai was banned by Blizzard Entertainment from its Hearthstone tournaments. CEO James Ferguson tweeted that Immutable would give Wai the earnings he won at the Blizzard tournament. “No player should be punished for their beliefs”, the studio stated.

Blizzard Entertainment banned the player after he said “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our age!” live in a video interview. Blizzard refers to its tournament rules to motivate its actions, but the company is now being accused to choose money over freedom of speech. Even the company’s own employees don’t agree with the ban.

Towards millions of players

Yesterday the servers of Gods Unchained had to deal with only 455 players. However, the servers still collapsed. Immutable has work to do if it wants to take on a bigger and more mainstream audience. The company now has 15 million dollars to grow its business, thanks to a new investment round.
