Horizon Blockchain Games gets $3.75 million investment
Game development studio Horizon Blockchain Games has gotten an investment of $3.75 million dollars. Among the investors are companies like Coinbase, Polychain, Golden Ventures and the co-founder of Reddit, Alexis Ohanian. Horizon has already built one game and and blockchain video game network.
So far Horizon Blockchain Games has been developing its games and services on the Ethereum blockchain. The company has multiple office hubs around the world, even though the majority of the company is located in Canada. Horizon has offices in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Seattle, Mexico City and Madrid.
SkyWeaver
The companies first game is called SkyWeaver. It’s a free-to-play online collectible card game. Because of the nature of blockchain games, players can actually own digital cards and sell them for money. The game is in development for iOS, Android, Mac and Windows PC. It’s currently in closed beta testing. An official release date has not been set yet.
Each card in this game will have a certain value and can be sold. Just like with physical collectible card games some cards will be more rare and valuable than others. Cards can be traded and sold by all players, as they have true ownership. To store their cards, Horizon is developing a crypto catalog called Arcadeum.
Arcadeum
With Arcadeum, the game studio is building a digital portfolio where players can store their digital collectible cards. Here players will also be able to discover new games, acquire new items and so on. It’s supposed to become a central hub for multiple games in the same way that the Epic Games Store, Steam, Uplay and EA Origin work for the traditional game companies.
