The National Basketball Association and the National Basketball Player Association have partnered with the developers of Cryptokitties to create a blockchain-powered collectible game. The game will be called NBA Top Shot, and will allows fans to collect, sell and own unique, exclusive and digital NBA collectibles on the blockchain.

NBA Top Shot is the first major game from Dapper Labs after they laid the foundation for blockchain-powered collectible games with Cryptokitties. However, for their latest and upcoming basketball game, the collectibles are rooted into the physical world.

NBA Top Shot will have a social experience built around digital collectibles and a 1v1 game designed to create a fun, authentic and accessible fan engagement on blockchain. Players can build their ideal team with the roster built by acquiring live in-game moments from the NBA season, for example a famous last-minute 3-pointer by a certain player.

Collecting will start this Fall, while the actual game is planned to be released early 2019.
