The number of cryptocurrency ATMs more than doubled in 2018. Worldwide an average of six machines was installed per day. Currently there are 4051 crypto ATMs in the world, but that number might already be surpassed as the data from Data Light is a few days old.

Out of the 4051 ATMs known by Data Light, there are only five of those that do not support bitcoin (4046). With 2421 supporting ATMs, litecoin is the second most supported coin, followed by ethereum (1993), bitcoin cash (1356), Dash (729), Monero (120), Dogecoin (79) and Zcash (67). Obviously most machines support multiple coins.

A crypto currency ATM allows users to pay money in exchange for crypto. This can either be put in a newly generated wallet, or into an existing wallet. Some machines also allow coin and paper money deposits in exchange for crypto, even though use of debit and credit cards is the most common.

At the moment there are 41 producers of ATM machines worldwide, according to data from Coin ATM Radar. The biggest names are Genesis Coin (1288 locations), which is mainly U.S. based, General Bytes, with 2141 locations split over the U.S. and Europe, and Lamassu (428 locations). They have placed these machines in 76 countries.

With 2418 ATMs the United States has the most machines. Canada follows with 695 ATMs. In Europe it’s Austria that’s leading, with 261 machines. The United Kingdom (206) and Spain (76) follow well behind.
